The TC oil seal is widely used in motors and gearboxes because its double-lip structure can help retain lubricating oil while limiting the entry of external contaminants. This makes it suitable for many rotating-shaft applications.

One Seal, Two Sealing Functions

A typical TC oil seal has a primary sealing lip and an outer dust lip.

The primary lip contacts the rotating shaft to help prevent lubricant leakage. The outer lip helps reduce the entry of dust, moisture, and other contaminants into the sealing area.

This combination is useful in motors and gearboxes, where internal lubrication needs to be maintained while the shaft is exposed to the surrounding environment.

The Spring Maintains Lip Contact

A TC oil seal normally uses a garter spring around the main sealing lip. The spring helps maintain radial contact between the lip and the shaft during operation.

This is important for rotating shafts that may experience changes in speed, temperature, vibration, or operating conditions.

Why Does It Fit Motors and Gearboxes?

Motors and gearboxes commonly involve the same basic conditions:

rotating shafts + lubricants + continuous operation.

The TC structure is designed around these requirements. It helps retain lubricant, limit external contamination, and maintain sealing contact through the spring-loaded lip.

However, TC is not automatically suitable for every motor or gearbox. Shaft speed, temperature, lubricant type, pressure, shaft surface condition, material, and seal dimensions should still be considered.

The real value of a TC oil seal is not simply preventing oil leakage. It helps manage both the lubricant inside the equipment and the contaminants outside it.
